Top 10 Reasons To Apply for Summer Staff 2011

The 2010 Summer Staff enjoyed an end-of-the-summer Thank You Dinner.

Hello! I wanted to say that I hope each and every one of you are thinking about applying for Summer Staff 2011 because it is such a great opportunity! Also, there are many reasons why should you apply, but these were the first 10 that popped into my head. Enjoy!

Reason #10: It’s a summer job. Not only is it a job, but it is during the summer! I mean, it’s a win-win situation. Not only a summer job, but a life changing experience.

Reason #9: You get meals for free. What other job do you really know that provides meals for free?! I don’t.

Reason #8: Sleeping in air-conditioning rooms.

Reason #7: You’re going to see me there (whether it be on Summer Staff or on Weekly Staff) in the summer.

Reason #6: Community of Summer Staff. A part of that “life changing experience” I mentioned is with those people who you are going to be living, eating, hanging out and praising God together with. I feel the Summer Staff always has a strong family bond, which I can say for all the previous years I have served (’06, ’07, ’08, ’10). During the summer, you’ll all go through some funny times and stressful times, but those fellow Summer Staff members are the people you are going to talk to, lean on when you need advice, or just play “Jungle Speed” (popular Summer Staff 2010 game) to get your mind off things. Even after the summer, it doesn’t mean your bond is over – HECK NO! I still am in contact with all the previous Summer Staffers I have had a chance to serve besides over the years. The community is a special thing.

Reason #5: Fun! You may think I am joking, but I am not. You can’t do this job and not have fun – it’s impossible, hahaha. I can tell you numerous stories of funny times while serving on Summer Staff. It’s a fun job, so if you like to have fun then you should start your application now! (Notice: As this job is very fun, I am not saying there is no responsibility and no rules because obviously there is and they are also part of the job, but they can co-exist – I promise!)

Reason #4: Meeting new people every week. People ask me all the time, “Turtle, how do you know so many people at camp?” My response is usually like this, “Well, first, I have been going here since I was 3 years old. But, second, serving the Lord on Summer Staff for 4 years, you tend to meet a lot of new people because every week since it is a new camp with new campers, counselors, and deans.” If you are outgoing and like to meet new people, it will happen a lot during the summer! (Side Note: Not that I am trying to persuade you even more (which I am) to apply, but you also get to meet and hear some cool Christian bands that spend a week at different camp programs. One being Tenth Avenue North, of course.

Reason #3: You get to be apart of a campers’ experience at Delanco Camp by showing them the love of Christ. What I mean by this is not being a counselor because that’s what counselors are for, hahaha, but you get to be (one of many people) apart of every single campers’ experience at Delanco Camp. You get to unclog a toilet, serve them food, help decide on what candy/drink they want at the Snack Shack, take out their trash, guard their lives while swimming, play games with them, and much more. All that I mention goes to making every single campers’ experience better, and it helps out the counselors, teachers, and deans to do their jobs as well.

Reason #2: Learning more about the Lord from different speakers, teachers, and fellow staff members. Hey, I don’t know everything about the Lord, or the Bible, or about life, but that’s what those people are here for. Besides my fellow Summer Staffers, some of my greatest conversations about the Word of God or just life was with the speaker of the week, a teacher, or someone else on staff who could help me out.

Reason #1: The opportunity to serve the Lord all summer. “Each one should use whatever gift he has recieved to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” -1 Peter 4:10-11

Tenth Avenue North Free CD Release Show!

Tenth Avenue North's new CD, The Light Meets The Dark, comes out on May 11

Our good friends, Tenth Avenue North, have been busy this year. They started with the Winter Jam 2010 in January traveling to more than forty cities with bands like – Third Day, Newsboys, Fireflight, and some others. I luckily got to see them in late January when the Winter Jam Tour stopped in Reading, PA and, of course, they performed awesome. After the Winter Jam 2010, they started the Until The Whole World Hears Tour with Casting Crowns and Caleb – which they are still currently on, but will be ending this Saturday, May 1st. They took a short break during the tour to attend (they were up for two nominees) and play at the 41st Annual GMA Dove Awards. Tenth Avenue North won for Song of the Year for “By Your Side”, which they performed a mini version of that night as well. Mike Donehey, leader vocals and guitar, also took home an additional award for his work on the multi-artist worship project, Glory Revealed II, which was recognized in the Special Event Album category.

Busy, right? I wasn’t joking, and I’m not even done yet!

Tenth Avenue North brand new album, The Light Meets The Dark, is available on May 11. The guys are very excited for the release, and can’t wait for everyone to get to listen to it. Some songs from the new album have been released as singles the last couple of weeks until the album comes out. The three songs are “Healing Begins,” “Strong Enough To Save,” and “You Are More.” The other song coming out as a single before the full album is, “Truth Is Who You Are” on May 4. The four songs are actually the first four songs on the album, which is made up of 11 tracks. You can preview the tracklist and sample the other songs at www.tenthavenuenorth.com.

I know what you’re thinking now, “Turtle. The title of this blog says something about a free CD release show, so when is it!?” And the answer to that question is coming right now, friend! Counting down the days until the CD release (and after it does), Tenth Avenue North is having six free CD release shows around the country – and you guessed it, one of them is in New Jersey. On May 11 (the day the album is released), they will be playing a free CD release show with Star99 at The Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, N.J., at 7 p.m. If you live in or around the New Jersey area, this is a great opportunity to see Tenth Avenue North in concert (if you never have for free), meet the guys afterwards (because they usually have a signing table), and pick up The Light Meets The Dark (the day it is released)!

-Andrew aka “Turtle”-

Crazy!

Worth Dying For's last album "Worth Dying For".

Worth Dying For's last album "Worth Dying For".

Hi everyone! For those of you, who don’t know me – my name is Andrew aka “turtle”. I just wanted to take the time to give you a small devotion.

It is mid-October already, and I can’t believe it! For me, being in college (Eastern University) means mid-terms! Along with mid-terms, projects and just keeping on top of other things is stressful sometimes and frustrating. Tonight, I was doing homework and listening to my iTunes music and a song came on that reminded me to just go crazy for Him always and praise Him, no matter what is going on! The song is called “Crazy” by a pretty cool Christian band named “Worth Dying For”. The lyrics will be posted right under this, and I encourage you to read the words and “…Go crazy, jump for Him!…” Thanks!

-Andrew

Lyrics:

Here I am, hands to the sky
I throw them high
Overwhelmed by saving grace
I sing Your praise

Give me all that You have
I want all of the world to see
The evidence in me

I’ll go crazy, jump for You
I’ll go crazy, yell to You
The world will try to shut me up but they can’t
Hold me down I will worship You like crazy

Singe the pride that’s deep inside
Take my life
Revive my soul, I want You Lord
To take control

Give me all that You have
I want all of the world to see
The evidence in me

I’ll go crazy, jump for You
I’ll go crazy, yell to You
The world will try to shut me up but they can’t
Hold me down I will worship You like crazy

I’ll go crazy, jump for You
I’ll go crazy, yell to You
The world will try to shut me up but they can’t
Hold me down I will worship You like crazy

Give me all that You have
I want all of the world to see
The evidence in me

We go crazy, here we go, here we go (8x)!
