Music Monday: Aaron Gillespie’s story

Drummers tend to not get a lot of attention or credit until they follow the semi-worn path of drummer to frontman transition (it’s okay if you are thinking of Phil Collins – he was the first to come to my mind). Admittedly, I had to Wikipedia Aaron Gillespie when I recently discovered the crazy amount of followers he has on Twitter. If you’re in the dark like me, Gillespie is the former drummer of hardcore band Underoath and currently fronts alternative band The Almost (I recommend checking out their video for “Hands” at YouTube). His Wikipedia entry mentions that he also leads worship and works as a youth leader at a UM church in Florida.

His story is pretty cool and shows that even teenagers with an ear for heavy music and a desire to make a lot of noise folks at their church don’t get or always appreciate can make a huge difference for the kingdom.
