Camp regular Sarah Herman covers He Is We’s song “Happily Ever After” in this video she posted to YouTube today. The original is HERE. We’re of course partial to Sarah’s version.

The Glee Project is an online audition website that gives hopeful Glee cast members a chance to audition for the popular high school TV show. That former camper, summer staffer and friend of the camp Becky Kralle would be a familiar face among the crowd auditioning comes as no surprise. She is, after all, the only camp alum (that we know of) to appear on Jeopardy.

Megan Leslie Daddario, 19, attended Sharptown United Methodist Church and was a student at Eastern University when she got sick in January. She graduated from Cumberland Regional High School in 2010.

Cindy Sullivan Moore recalled her first meeting Megan at camp in a Facebook post:

“I met Megan when I first started working at Delanco Camp 8 years ago. She was a camper for 3 or 4 years and then helped out as a Jr. counselor. I had the privlege of hearing her give her testimony to the other campers a few years ago. What an insiration she was to everyone she met. She was a beautiful girl inside and out. We lost a wonderful person but heaven gained a beautiful angel.”

A service to celebrate Megan’s life will be held Tuesday (June 21) at Sharptown UMC at 2 p.m.

Days later, he was on the ground in Tuscaloosa, Ala., seeing first-hand the devastation wrought by tornadoes that hit Alabama and surrounding regions in late April.

Recently, I’ve been reading Fearless by Max Lucado, a good book with some good ideas behind it. We, as a people, have learned to fear fear. One of my fears is meeting new people. Once I get comfortable with someone, on a personal level, I tend to be more open with them in everyday interactions. If I don’t know someone, I tend to put up my walls and not interact with them. See Katey Bartie, she went from a complete stranger to a sister, from never talking to each other to confidant status in a mere 10-week stint during the 2006 summer.

You may think that you haven’t made a good choice for this Lenten season. Maybe what you’ve chosen is too easy or perhaps, you’re in over your head. (note: being in over your head isn’t necessarily a bad thing.) I challenge you to challenge yourself, to push your pre-conceived limits. Challenges are, indeed, a good thing. They make us better people, they refine us much like the way that “iron sharpens iron”, Proverbs 27:17.

I’m accepting my challenge, will you?

I was a middle school kid at Chews United Methodist Church when I first attended a junior high camp with my brother Mike at Delanco Camp so it’s safe to say that the church, which is celebrating its 200th anniversary this month, holds a special place in my heart. The above video was on the Courier-Post‘s website this week as part of their coverage of the anniversary.

Burkman served the Lord as a pastor of United Methodist churches in southern New Jersey for a remarkable 63 years, the longest of anyone in the conference when he retired from his last church in Cape May County at age 84.

Though I never had the privilege of meeting “Manny” or “Burky” as he was known, I understand he was quite the revivalist who made a lasting impact for the kingdom in every church he served and at our camp when it was in the town of Delanco and when it moved to its present location. He was a board member and led many a workday at camp, carpentry being one of his passionate hobbies.

A Memorial Service will take place at The Shores at Wesley Manor, 2201 Bay Avenue, in Ocean City, on Saturday, March 5, at 11 a.m.

I was a camper with Josh growing up and was always well fed on the anything-but-typically-gross camp food his mom prepared in the kitchen as head cook all of my years as a camper.

The Palumbo family could really use your prayers as they mourn the tragic and untimely loss of Josh.

If you didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Josh as I and pretty much anyone who was a camper at Delanco in the ’90s had, I think this picture captures his personality well. Since hearing the horrible news, the memories that keep flooding back to me are of Josh at camp, lightening the mood and making everyone laugh in a way that only he could.

Joshua W. Palumbo, 30, of Wildwood, NJ, formerly of Washington Twp., NJ, passed away on February 2, 2011. Josh was a graduate of Washington Twp. High School and formerly worked as a chef. Loving son of Rev. Joseph Palumbo, Sr. and Donna Palumbo (nee Sparks). Dear brother of Joseph Palumbo, Jr., Jeremy Palumbo (Danielle) and Jennifer Wood (John). Loving grandson of Elizabeth Sparks. Dear uncle of Spencer, Kiera, Ciara, Gavin, Dakota, Rashelle and Alexandria. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Farnelli Funeral Home, 504 N. Main Street, Williamstown, NJ, where a service will follow at 12:00 pm. Cremation will be held privately.
