“They weren’t kidding”
You might remember a post we had back in February entitled Love @ Lake Agape in which we talked about the long legacy of people meeting, falling in love and marrying at camp.
One of the recently engaged at camp couples we featured in that piece were Becky and Justin, who popped the question in summer 2009. This photo from their wedding reception represents just how strong their connection to camp is – that crowd representing all of the people Becky and Justin have known in one way or another because of camp.
Pretty amazing isn’t it?
I like what photographer Melissa Schmid had to say about the photo on her blog:
This first photo was mentioned about a week before the wedding that Becky and Justin wanted to do a group photo of their friends that were attending the wedding that they met at Delanco Christian Camp. When I asked how many people were in this shot they simply said “a lot”… Well, they weren’t kidding!
I wasn’t at this wedding but I’ve been at several weddings like this where the ties to camp are thick, each connection and each memory a testimony of lives transformed and relationships cemented by a little camp in the Pine Barrens where for generations God has moved His mighty hand.

15 seconds of fame
Our good friend Rob Lewis, a local pastor who has served the camp as a dean and a member of the board of directors, racked up 15-plus seconds of fame last night on TLC’s “Four Weddings,” a reality show where four brides attend each others weddings and weigh in their opinions.
Rob, the pastor of Gibbsboro UMC (a church my dad served as pastor when I was in elementary school) officiated the wedding of show contestants Chelsea and Phil. His voice and few shots of him officiating the wedding made it on the show as well as a number of great shots of the church’s exterior.
I never would have watched the show if not for the Gibbsboro UMC tie-in, but there are far worse reality shows out there to be on I suppose than this one even if the true meaning and significance of marriage gets little play.
If you want to see the episode for yourself, you’re going to have to fork over a couple dollars on iTunes (did someone say Goodshop?). Search for Four Weddings and the name of the episode, which is “And a Love Hike.”
The Remnant Coming to Jr. High 1
The Remnant, a worship band all the way from Kansas, will be coming to Junior High 1 this year to lead worship from Monday through Friday of the week.
What perhaps is most exciting about The Remnant coming – beside the fact that they are awesome – is that Melissa Halverson is part of the group. Melissa was on permanent staff several years ago when she was known as Melissa Munro so it will be a homecoming for her for sure. Melissa’s husband, Michael, is also in the group, which, according to the description on their Facebook page:
…is comprised mainly of Highschool & College aged students, under the direction of Michael & Melissa Halverson. We have a heart to reach not only our generation, but every age group God brings our way. We believe worship is more than words & melodies – it should be a reflection of the constant adoration we feel in our hearts. Worship isn’t about a fad or culture. It’s not about a beat or lyric. We stand firmly on the word of God in John 4:23 that worship is being simply & honestly ourselves before God; & must engage our spirits in the pursuit of truth.
The Remnant will be doing a special concert on Wednesday, July 7, at 7:30 p.m. so if you aren’t already going to be at Junior High 1 that week, make sure you come out. The concert is free, but a love offering will be taken.
“We are very excited to come!,” Melissa said in an e-mail. “By the time we get there we will have been on the road for a month… It’s the last stop on our summer tour and the guys are pumped! It will be a first-time camp experience for all of them (my husband included). It will be great for me to be back, Delanco has a very special place in my heart!”
Their new album Freedom’s Found A Way was released earlier this month. You can Goodshop it on iTunes by searching for “Freedom’s Found A Way.”
Tenth Avenue North Free CD Release Show!
Our good friends, Tenth Avenue North, have been busy this year. They started with the Winter Jam 2010 in January traveling to more than forty cities with bands like – Third Day, Newsboys, Fireflight, and some others. I luckily got to see them in late January when the Winter Jam Tour stopped in Reading, PA and, of course, they performed awesome. After the Winter Jam 2010, they started the Until The Whole World Hears Tour with Casting Crowns and Caleb – which they are still currently on, but will be ending this Saturday, May 1st. They took a short break during the tour to attend (they were up for two nominees) and play at the 41st Annual GMA Dove Awards. Tenth Avenue North won for Song of the Year for “By Your Side”, which they performed a mini version of that night as well. Mike Donehey, leader vocals and guitar, also took home an additional award for his work on the multi-artist worship project, Glory Revealed II, which was recognized in the Special Event Album category.
Busy, right? I wasn’t joking, and I’m not even done yet!
Tenth Avenue North brand new album, The Light Meets The Dark, is available on May 11. The guys are very excited for the release, and can’t wait for everyone to get to listen to it. Some songs from the new album have been released as singles the last couple of weeks until the album comes out. The three songs are “Healing Begins,” “Strong Enough To Save,” and “You Are More.” The other song coming out as a single before the full album is, “Truth Is Who You Are” on May 4. The four songs are actually the first four songs on the album, which is made up of 11 tracks. You can preview the tracklist and sample the other songs at www.tenthavenuenorth.com.

I know what you’re thinking now, “Turtle. The title of this blog says something about a free CD release show, so when is it!?” And the answer to that question is coming right now, friend! Counting down the days until the CD release (and after it does), Tenth Avenue North is having six free CD release shows around the country – and you guessed it, one of them is in New Jersey. On May 11 (the day the album is released), they will be playing a free CD release show with Star99 at The Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, N.J., at 7 p.m. If you live in or around the New Jersey area, this is a great opportunity to see Tenth Avenue North in concert (if you never have for free), meet the guys afterwards (because they usually have a signing table), and pick up The Light Meets The Dark (the day it is released)!

He survived all right
I was just looking at the photos Colleen Kane McCullough took at yesterday’s Open House for CJ in the camp Dining Hall.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it but this photo of a T-shirt with the inscription “I Survived Peak 2009″ and the picture of the UPS truck made me do what the kids these days abbreviate as LOL. I wasn’t just typing laughter either. I laughed out loud for a good half-minute.
CJ survived all right. By the grace of God he is still with us after his on the job at UPS slip and fall during peak 2009.
That we can have a good laugh seeing a shirt like this is an incredible testimony to God’s healing power and the remarkable way He brought all of us who know CJ – and many who’ve never met the man – together in prayer since we all heard the terrible news in December.
And if it’s not already abundantly clear to you that God has a purpose for CJ’s life and knew all along that this terrible accident could be used as a demonstration of His wonder-working power read (or read again)the letter CJ sent on the eve of his return.
His story is an unforgettable one, but his story is also our story too if we allow God to open our eyes and see that He has a special plan for all of us and that through good times and bad, joyful gladness and painful tragedy He is, as we are reminded in Romans 8:28 “at work for the good of those who love Him” and “have been called according to his purpose.”
Delanco-inspired art
Our friend Jade Hunsberger posted some photos today from her art portfolio she submitted to University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Included in her portfolio were two photos inspired by the many weeks she has spent on our grounds over the years.
Jade isn’t just talented with visual art. She’s also a budding writer as well. Click HERE to check out the testimony she wrote for the blog in October.
