If you can help with the bedtime routine while the moms enjoy their evening session, please contact me at laurierambo@gmail.com.

On the eve of his return to camp, CJ gives an update. Read More

This communiqué comes prayerfully with much anticipation and diligence after these past couple months. Under the vision of friends and leaders of the camp, the newly created position of camp coordinator at Delanco Camp Meeting Association brought me excitedly back to New Jersey with a Spirit-led calling, unique opportunities, a pioneering spirit, and broad shoulders upon which to stand: those who have served Delanco Camp faithfully across the years.

After starting in this part-time position on July 1, 2009, and moving into the newly renovated Warchol House, I decided to work part-time for UPS as a driver’s helper to deliver packages. This work came to a hasty conclusion on Dec. 23, 2009, when I was caused to fall as a result of an ice patch during a delivery. Over the next several weeks, we battled life on a ventilator, a skull fracture, a coma, a gastric bleed, double pneumonia, ongoing fevers as high as 105, dehydration, a collapsed lung, a blood clot in my lower leg, a vertebrae fracture, and several other challenges. As a result, after 35 days at Jersey Shore Medical Center, I was flown via medical jet to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Ga., which is known for treating traumatic brain injuries and starting the rehabilitation process.

Along with close family and friends coming to substantial aid, the prayer networks and warriors kicked into high gear. Prayers were offered and answered for speedy healing and encouragement during which time I had seemingly insurmountable obstacles and dreams for the future. My discharge date is set for April 8, at which time we head back to camp. We will continue with outpatient rehabilitation upon our return home. The diligence of several therapists and doctors has paid off, but there is still much to do and lifelong deficits with which to deal.

We look forward to visiting with our friends! In order to keep these visits of the caliber that we would like and to ensure that we are home and available, please give a phone call. We don’t want wasted trips if they can be avoided.

There is still much to do at Delanco as well. Delanco Camp depends on your continued involvement and support of its ministries. Volunteers serve in a wide assortment of opportunities. If there are gifts and graces you have, please clarify and communicate them and we will do our best to get you plugged into the life of the camp. As a reminder, we also have an important and significant ongoing need for specialty contractors who can donate their time, knowledge, and ideas.

The bottom line is … Delanco Camp depends on you!

To make sure this information reaches our record-keeping, please e-mail cjcaufield@delanco.org or visit the Support Page on our Web site (see link at top of this page or click HERE).

We need you to continue and enhance your prayer efforts. At a time when things may seem less dire for this current state of affairs, I humbly request continued diligence in prayer activities during this transition. I look forward to this exceptionally invigorating era of life as I serve in this position. Please continue to pray for the ongoing ministry of this God-breathed creation of Delanco Camp.

Please pray for:

-Transition: during this shift back to camp

-Leadership: including administrative leaders, deans, staff, retreat leaders

-Volunteers: including general knowledge and specialized contractors

-Development: implementation of plans to reach our long-standing ministry goals

Much love and appreciation comes with this update. I look forward to ministering in your midst soon. Grace and peace,
CJ

When the Winter Olympics start next week they’ll be thousands of people from all over the world converging on the Canadian city of Vancouver. But only one (that we know of) will be arriving with extensive Delanco Camp experience.

Carlton Bodine III, who cut his teeth as an audio engineer running the soundboard out at camp, is heading to Vancouver to join more than 40 other Asbury College students, staff and alums working on the Olympics broadcast team. Carlton’s call came at the last minute for an audio job at the downhill skiing, as he describes in his blog.

“So I was sitting in my room with my good friend Kenton watching a movie. All of the sudden my room phone rang, which is very rare since not many have room phones anymore. I decided to answer it to which I hear, ‘Hi Carlton, this is Jim Owens’ I instantly knew what he was calling for. He went on to say, ‘I have a job for you, can you be here by Sunday night.’ So I called my parents and booked my flight and now leave Sunday morning at 6 a.m. eastern time.”

For more on what Carlton and his classmates will be up to, there’s a story on the Asbury Website HERE.

To keep tabs on Carlton the month he is in western Canada, visit
carltonolympic.blogspot.com.

An old friend is returning to camp this summer to preach the Word of God at a pulpit he’s preached from many times before.

He grew up in Millville, is the president of Wesley Biblical Seminary and holds degrees from Asbury College, Asbury Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary and Drew Theological Seminary.

We know him, of course, as Ron Smith and are excited to have him with us for Camp Meeting June 27-July 3.

Here are a few more tidbits about Dr. Ronald Smith from his bio on the Francis Asbury Society Web site:

President Smith has been privileged to speak in a wide arena of denominational settings around the world. He has served as a keynote speaker in a variety of regional and national meetings for denominations and consortiums in the broader Wesleyan world. Ron has also delivered several distinguished lecture series at different colleges, universities, and theological seminaries, such as the notedThomas F. Staley Distinguished Lecture Series.

Ron’s special burden is for students in higher education. He and his family have hosted a weekly meeting for spiritual growth and study with college and seminary students for many years.

Ron has served on such boards as World Gospel Mission and the Francis Asbury Society and, for several years, served as Chairman of the Board of OMS International.

He has also written and taught professionally on subjects in the field of the History of Christian Doctrine. His work has focused on Evangelicalism and Modernity; The Intellectual History of the Nineteenth Century; Forging the American Evangelical Tradition, Perfectionism and Pre-Millennialism; and, The Theological Lifework of Dr. Henry Clay Morrison. He is currently working on a Pneumatology for the Francis Asbury Society’s Systematic Theology Project.

He has written articles for many denominational and missional publications, and has a special interest in producing substantive theological literature for the Church today.

Ron is married to Dorena (Ritzler) and together they have two daughters, Katie and Laura.
